Healthy Church: Conversion and Evangelism

What does it mean to become a Christian? Is conversion simply the moment someone prays a prayer, walks an aisle, or gets baptized? Those things may accompany conversion, but a healthy church needs a much more biblical understanding of what happens when God saves someone. Much more.

In this episode of Salty Believer Unscripted, Josiah Walker and Bryan Catherman continue our Healthy Church series with the third of Mark Dever’s Nine Marks of a Healthy Church: a biblical understanding of conversion and evangelism. They discuss why conversion cannot be reduced to a one-time decision followed by business as usual. When God saves someone, he changes them. The Christian life begins with repentance and faith and continues as a life of following Christ, growing in holiness, bearing fruit, and persevering in the faith.

A biblical understanding of conversion also changes how we think about evangelism. Evangelism is not merely getting someone to repeat the right words so we can count another decision. We want people to know who Jesus is, understand the gospel, repent of sin, trust Christ, and follow him. Then we want to walk with them as brothers and sisters in the local church. Healthy evangelism is concerned with making disciples, not merely producing decisions.

What does genuine conversion look like, and how should that shape the way a healthy church evangelizes, baptizes, and disciples people? Join us as we discuss conversion and evangelism and the healthy church on Salty Believer Unscripted. Listen wherever you get podcasts or listen here:
